KPMG Botswana achieves Platinum employer status
KPMG, the international firm of accountants and advisers has been awarded Platinum Employer accreditation from ACCA for its operation in Botswana.
KPMG has served Botswana since the 1950's and currently employs 15 qualified accountants, including four qualified Motswana, two of whom qualified through KPMG's training programme. Tuition was provided by the Botswana Accountancy College (BAC), the main ACCA tuition provider in Botswana. Thirteen Botswana citizens who previously qualified through KPMG now hold senior positions in commerce and industry.
According to KPMG training manager Ellen Hood the accreditation is important to ensure that the quality of the accountants employed at the firm is of the highest calibre. "All accounting trainees are given full financial support and paid leave to enable them to attend structured study and revision courses at BAC for each paper on their first sitting", she added.
Work experience is organised to meet the firm's long term staffing and skills needs, with trainees normally attending college for six months followed by six months of applying their new found skills and experience in the workplace.
Senior management teams monitor the overall performance and development in the workplace, guaranteeing that the trainee is supervised and assisted. Training is conducted using ACCA's Student Training Record as a guide. This, together with KPMG's unique internal dialogue process, works towards building the managers of tomorrow helping them to achieve their goals of becoming supervisors, managers, senior managers and ultimately partners.
